The Growing Pavilion

From 2018 on I dived into the beauty and potentials of biobased materials. As a researcher and storyteller I was responsible for the concept development and content around The Growing Pavilion, an iconic ode to biobased materials. The award winning pavilion, first showcased at Dutch Design Week, is unique in the large number of biobased materials used together to create a building. It that shows the possibilities and the new aesthetic of biobased materials. The 10 ton CO2 negative and 95% circular structure is made up of five grown core raw materials: wood, mycelium, residual flows from the agricultural sector, bulrush (cattail) and cotton. Showcasing each material as raw as possible, the pavilion has a very distinctive visual identity, organic texture and color.

As a part of this project I created The Material Atlas. You can check it out here.
